The Retreat Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant will have it's opening night on Friday 23rd February 2007 and then on the last Friday in the month, whatever date that falls on. There will be a choice of two starters, two main meals and two deserts. We will be keeping the menu small as we will be changing it every month. The meals will be organic wherever possible and locally sourced to avoid food miles, and seasonal. We aim to provide good, honest, wholesome and healthy food. Booking only via telephone 01756 751887 or e-mail theretreatcafe@btconnect.com
A lone Ash tree on a stretch of Limestone Pavement in the Yorkshire Dales. The Ash is indigenous to this part of the world, and before the reformation in the 1500s the dales would have been largely wooded. After the monasteries lost their power, and therefore their ability to support their workers, laws were passed that allowed enclosure of parcels of land. Part of the requirement was the parcel had to be 'inclosed' within a short period of time. So people used the easiest thing to hand - wood. They denuded the landscape of trees. The trees have never returned in any number.
